Empowering Croydon’s Youth: How Our Weekly Programmes Support 16–25-Year-Olds
At YourGateway2Success, we believe in the boundless potential of young people. Through our weekly programmes, we provide consistent, tailored support for 16–25-year-olds in Croydon, helping them build confidence, overcome challenges and unlock opportunities for personal and professional growth.
We are committed to ensuring that every young person has access to the tools, relationships and encouragement they need to thrive — not only in times of crisis, but as part of their regular routine.
A Holistic Approach to Young Adult Wellbeing
The transition from adolescence into adulthood presents exciting possibilities, but also brings new pressures — whether it’s making decisions about education, managing finances or maintaining emotional wellbeing. Young people in Croydon are navigating:
- Identity and purpose, as they explore their values and future goals
- Emotional regulation, including stress, anxiety and low self-esteem
- Social connection, through meaningful friendships and professional networks
Without proper support, these challenges can feel isolating. Our weekly programmes provide a trusted, empathetic space where young people are listened to, guided and encouraged.
Weekly Programmes as an Anchor
Our programme is centred around ongoing, personalised support, with sessions designed to meet young people where they are and walk alongside them as they grow. Activities include:
- Interactive group workshops on topics such as emotional resilience, healthy relationships and assertive communication
- Peer-led projects, where attendees plan events, lead discussions and develop teamwork and leadership skills
“Around the end of January, over 10 attendees came to us feeling anxious about leaving college,” recalls mentor Tyrone. “Their stories moved us deeply and prompted our Board of Trustees to take immediate action. We launched a youth consultation survey between February and April. In response to overwhelming feedback, we advertised a new initiative on our website, CharityJobs, WhatsApp status, applied for a sponsorship licence in May, sought National Lottery Community Fund support and began grassroots fundraising to launch a pilot project.”
Introducing The Plug: Skills, Support, Success
Launching on 30 July 2025, The Plug is a 12-month pilot initiative created in direct response to the needs of Croydon’s youth. With over 100 young people expressing interest, the project expands our existing work and provides a dedicated space for growth, resilience and employability.
The Plug will support young people to:
- Bounce back from academic setbacks or job rejections
- Speak up for their needs and access the support they deserve
- Support others, fostering empathy and youth leadership
- Build life skills: CV writing, job searching, applications, communication and interview preparation
Connecting Young People to Opportunity
We believe real impact comes from connecting young people with wider networks and community resources. Through our programmes, participants gain access to:
- Local employers and training providers, unlocking placements, apprenticeships and internships
- Peer mentoring circles, where young people share experiences, challenges and solutions
- Family and community workshops, helping parents and carers reinforce positive communication and wellbeing at home
By blending personal development with community connection, we ensure every young person feels seen, heard and empowered.
